Annette Funicello was 13 years aged when she was noticed by the studio's head Walt Disney dancing in an amateur production called Swan Lake in Fullerton California. Funicello's Mickey Mouse Club teammates were in a state of dismay at the time Funicello joined her cast later in season 1 of the show, without being required to audition. Annette, however, wasn't too enthusiastic about Funicello singing. Funicello was eventually accustomed to recording and enjoyed the time she spent in the studio with Camerata, one of the very few arrangers in their 40s that were aware of the basic principles of the early rock. Annette Sings Anka is the album that marked the start of her progress. This was possibly the first LP featuring a rock songwriter. Funicello was the lead in Beach Party, one of five films about beach parties which were hugely successful. Most often, the film starred Frankie Avalon, these films were produced by AIP but the scripts for each movie have been individually accepted and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's clear image.
